VIDEOS AND QR CODES IN THE LIBRARY

With social networking and Web 2.0 applications being so popular, libraries are creating videos to reach a mass amount of users through YouTube and QR Codes.   Patrons search are able to comment and mark videos as favorite and such.  These are just a few ways that librarians remind patrons that the library is able to keep up with the 21st century.

Selene Colburn & Laura Haines (2012) Measuring Libraries’ Use of YouTube as a Promotional Tool: An Exploratory Study and Proposed Best Practices, Journal   of Web Librarianship, 6:1, 5-31.

CALYPSO GILSTRAP CHANNEL

This YouTube video would be best liked by students, take a look at Tiger Visits the Norman High Library by Calypso Gilstrap  https://youtu.be/NeUhXLvFAi4

“How to Use EBSCOHost” at  https://youtu.be/BezObVKkqOois also a great helpful video, done to provide students How-To do a search from home.

The Unquiet Library Channel

Tutorial Video For Tillery:PowerPoint "How-To" Bases would be most helpful for students. This video come in handy when trying to remember how to create a presentation at home.

Tillery: Senior Projects Commitment Statement Slide Designs Basics would be best liked by students trying to figure out what to add and how to present their presentations.

Pikesville HS Library Channel

I definitly enjoyed this video and I know the students will enjoy this library party.  What student wouldn't want to stand on desks and throw papers up in the air.

"Hip Hop Dau @ The Panthers Library" would be helpful when looking back at what they covered during a celebration of Black History Month.  Great memories of researching, learing, creating, and sharing at the library.

BB MS Media

"Noodle Tools - How to Create a Book Citation" is a great, short video to show students how to cite a book using the import by ISBN feature.

For enjoyment, BBC - TV Crew -End-of-Year Video 2016-2017 would be the one they'd love to watch.  They wouldnot only be great memories for the crew itself, but others get to see the kids behind their TV announcements. Who knows, they might get inspired to create something better the following year.

Fifth Harmony Overdue Library Book Parody video is one that students, staff, and parents would most enjoy year after year. The tune sticks in your mind and you're forced to sing it even if you aren't watching the video. Fantastic job in getting my attention!

I’d promote my library by having fun, interesting, and informative videos done by students themselves recreating all the things patrons can do there. Also, adding step by step directions to the library Web site by just clicking on a link would be favorable, so students won’t get frustrated and give up searching for information.

Animoto

The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davis

Amazon Synopsis                                                                       For a full hour, he poured lemonade. The world is a thirsty place, he thought as he nearly emptied his fourth pitcher of the day.
And I am the Lemonade King.
Fourth-grader Evan Treski is people-smart. He’s good at talking with people, even grownups. His younger sister, Jessie, on the other hand, is math-smart, but not especially good with people. So when the siblings’ lemonade stand war begins, there really is no telling who will win—or even if their fight will ever end. Brimming with savvy marketing tips for making money at any business, definitions of business terms, charts, diagrams, and even math problems, this fresh, funny, emotionally charged novel subtly explores how arguments can escalate beyond anyone’s intent.

I really enjoyed using Animoto to make the booktrailer.  It's so easy to use and would be perfect for students' presentations.  I know even 2nd graders will be able to create wonderful projects.

I wasn't too thrilled to create a QR Code, but it was actually painless! I chose QR Code Generator and it consisted of creating an account to recieve unlimited scans for 15 days, then I can pay $5 a month to keep it.  This will be great idea to add in my library and the best part is that they are FREE! You do need to have a technology device like a phone or iPad.   I can't wait to place them on bookmarks, book covers, bulletin boards, book displays and even taped on windows, walls and doors to promote the latest library books and materials available.
QR Codes are best used for quick access to the resources the library has to offer.
The possibilites are endless!
