Aaron, J. (2016). Mighty Thor Vol. 1: Thunder in Her Veins. New York, NY: Marvel.
She is the “Thunder God” and willing to do
her duty to help out with any attack no matter how sick she is.
A war arises when floating in space are dead elf bodies crashing
onto the weather station. The worlds at
war are Asgard, where an insurrection against Odin’s authority kicks off, and
Alfheim, where war erupts between the Light and Dark Elves and Thor takes on
the Thunder Guard in Asgard.
The problem is that the antagonist, Dark Elf Lord Malekith wants
to discredit Thor by putting up False Thor wanted posters stating that she is
an imposter all around the city of Asgardia, so he can take over the Nine
Realms.
Time after time, The Might Thor proves that she can fight (cuz girls rule!).
This high fantasy, science fiction book has pages that are
filled with bright colored action animations; it’s format looks like a comic
book and is great for reluctant readers that are overwhelmed by paragraphs. Word usage in this book is appropriate for middle
grade, ages 12 and up.
The theme is that the good guys will never stop fighting for
justice. Thor tells Malekith, “Bring all
the elves you have, but you shall not take this city! Not while Thor yet
lives!” I chose this book from the Great Graphic Novels for Teens List.
- Take a look at a fast story telling by the Comicstorian of the Mighty Thor. This can be great for reluctant readers after they read the book on their own to get a better understanding of all the action in the book. https://youtu.be/_RGGfYMAa5w?list=PL47393A80FD91B58B
- This would be a good video to watch before reading the book in order to understand the book and learn why there is now a female Thor in this video by Comicstorian: https://youtu.be/96W5tLJeF6E
